From a societal perspective, many people are claiming to be WOKE. They are “woke” about what is needed in our neighborhoods, communities, schools, businesses, politics, etc.
You name it. People seem to know exactly who needs to stay, who needs to go, what’s acceptable and what’s unacceptable.
While our answers for everything are flying around, we seem to be a in a very sad state as a human race. People seem angry, miserable, hateful, accusatory, confused, argumentative, and unsatisfied…
As “woke” as we are, how can this be?
While we are seemingly “woke” about what’s happening around us, our eyes are wide shut about what is really happening inside of us individually, and even what’s going on within those in our own homes. Although we live together, we don’t know how to communicate, we find it difficult to spend time together without our gadgets stuck to our hands, and we are self-absorbed, not willing to make concessions for the benefit of another. If the activity doesn’t interest me, I opt out-I’m not going.
We are losing the relational aspect of spending time with those whom we love. We don’t find it necessary to gain wisdom and strength from our elders which could positively help us face the challenges of the day; and, we don’t focus on having self-awareness to realize what we really should focus on to feel accomplished in the lives we choose to live – with a sense of freedom to be an individual and live with courage.
Do you know who you are? Do you know what you want? Do you have a positive support team to help you find the answers to these questions?
If the answer is no to any of these questions, instead of being woke culturally, spend some time becoming woke to who you are and where you’re going. Not only will this change your life, it can change what we see in the behaviors of others around us. Shucks, we might become positive examples for others to do the same.
You can choose to redefine what it means to be woke, but first you must open your eyes to really see YOU.
